Zanzibar public posts are advertised on ZanAjira, the Zanzibar government's recruitment portal. In September 2026 one Ministry of Education and Vocational Training advert opened teaching posts across Unguja and Pemba, with applications accepted until 27 September. Rounds like this close within weeks, so check the portal often. See public jobs on Work.tz.
Who can apply
Read the eligibility lines in each ZanAjira advert. The September 2026 teaching advert required applicants to be Zanzibari and not older than 46. Posts are split between Unguja and Pemba, so check which island each post is on. If you do not meet a stated condition, do not apply.
Private employers on the islands
Hotels, resorts and tour operators hire across the islands. On 27 September 2026, Work.tz also listed production and sales roles in Zanzibar from METL Group companies, including Maisha Bottlers & Beverages. The Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority publishes information on investment in Zanzibar, which can point to employers opening new sites. See all Zanzibar roles.
Pay and contracts
The private-sector minimum wage order GN 605A covers the listed sectors on Tanzania Mainland. For a Zanzibar job, ask which wage rule and contract terms apply before you accept. Hotel work often includes shifts, housing or meals: get every allowance in writing.

Never pay to apply, to be shortlisted or to be placed. If an agency advert does not name the employer, ask for the company name, the work address and the role reference before you travel. For public service posts, apply only through the official portal named in the advert.
