What is the minimum wage in Tanzania?

There is no single figure. Government Notice 605A sets monthly minimum wages for the private sector in Mainland Tanzania from 1 January 2026, by sector and, in some sectors, by the size or class of the employer. The lowest and highest floors differ several times over, so start with the sector of the employer that signs your contract. The order does not cover Zanzibar or public-service salary scales, and a contract can always pay more.

Before you accept

Four checks
worth making.

01

Start with the full picture

Ask whether the number is gross or net, how often it is paid, and which regular costs or benefits sit beside it.

02

Compare like with like

A title alone is not a benchmark. Scope, seniority, working hours, location and responsibility change what a fair comparison means.

03

Ask the practical questions

Clarify probation, review points, leave, medical cover, equipment, travel and the expectations that are not captured in one salary figure.

04

Get the offer in writing

Before you resign or commit, make sure the role, pay, start date and key terms are clear in a document you can read carefully.

Use the offer conversation to decide with clarity, then find the next real opportunity.
