What a tutorial assistant post is
The University of Dodoma adverts call the tutorial assistant post a training post: the person appointed must study for a master’s degree, conduct tutorials and seminars, and assist with research. Most university adverts asked for a first degree with a GPA of at least 3.8 out of 5; the wildlife college’s tutorial assistant posts and most sugar institute posts asked for 3.5. Mzumbe University adds that the master’s must be completed with a GPA of at least 4.0.
Reading the codes
Each group of institutions uses its own structure: PUTS at the universities, PHTS at the wildlife college and PTSS at the sugar institute. Codes from different structures should not be treated as equal, even when the numbers look alike. The adverts state no amount, so ask the institution for the figure that matches the code and step. Private colleges
KOMU College of Technology and Management in Mbeya advertised four instructor posts and said only that pay follows its own salary scales. Private colleges and higher education institutions have their own legal floors in the 2026 order, shown in the table.
Before you accept
Ask for the basic salary for the code and step, the allowances, and whether the master’s study is funded and on what terms. Keep the advert with the appointment letter. See teaching jobs.
