What the adverts show
Most open posts were in Dar es Salaam (30 of the 51), then Arusha (7) and Mbeya (3). Of the adverts that gave an experience band, 15 asked for one to three years, 25 for three to five and 2 for five to ten. Twenty-eight mentioned sales targets. Basic wage and commission
A sales offer often combines a fixed wage with commission or bonuses. Settle the guaranteed part first, because that is what you can budget on. Ask how commission is calculated, when it is paid, whether targets can change during the month and what happens to commission on returned goods or unpaid invoices.
The legal floor
The minimum wage applies to an employee’s wage, and the right row depends on the employer’s sector, not on the word sales in the job title. The table shows the 2026 rows for industry, business and microfinance. A freelance or agent arrangement may not be employment at all, so ask for the type of contract in writing.
Driving and field work
Three adverts combine selling with driving: two salesman driver posts and one sales representative cum driver. If a job needs you on the road, ask who pays fuel, repairs and insurance, and whether there is a daily field allowance.
