ZanAjira: how to apply for Zanzibar government jobs online

Two addresses, two jobs

The website zanajira.go.tz is the Commission's notice board: vacancy announcements, calls to interview, results and calls to work. Applications go through the separate portal at portal.zanajira.go.tz. Recent adverts say applications are accepted electronically through ZanAjira only, so a letter posted or handed in at an office is not an application.

Prepare before you register

The ZanAjira user manual asks for three things before you start:

• your Zanzibar ID (ZanID) number;
• a scanned passport size photo;
• a scan of every certificate, each saved as a separate PDF.

Academic certificates must not be larger than 2 MB each. Register with an email address you check often: the manual says most communication from the Commission comes by email, and the activation link can land in spam. You register once and use the same account for every vacancy.

Fill the profile to at least 70 percent

The portal will not let you apply until your profile is at least 70 percent complete. The tabs are personal details, contact details, academic qualifications, professional qualifications, languages, work experience, training, computer literacy, referees, other attachments and a declaration. When you enter your ZanID, your personal details fill in automatically.

Enter every level of education separately, from ordinary level up, with the correct index number for CSE and ACSE. If you studied outside Tanzania, the manual asks for a verification letter from NECTA for secondary school, NACTE for certificates and diplomas, or TCU for university awards. The manual notes that complete profiles are far more likely to be shortlisted, and the dashboard shows your percentage.

Who can apply: read the advert

Recent ZanAjira adverts set the conditions in the first lines. The June and October 2026 adverts we read required the applicant to be Zanzibari, not older than 46, and qualified from an institution recognised by the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar. Each advert gives its own window, often two weeks: the Ministry of Finance and Planning engineer posts were open from 2 to 16 October 2026.

Two lines in every recent advert cost people their applications. You must name the post you are applying for, and an application with only a progressive report or a statement of results is not considered. Upload the final certificate and transcript.

Apply and keep track

Open Vacancies, read the full post details, including qualifications, duties and the salary scale code, and click Apply. The manual asks you to attach a signed application letter before you confirm. A letter without a signature is a common reason to redo the step.

Help, and never pay

For help with the system, recent adverts give the Commission's phone number 0773 101012, and the manual lists info@zanajira.go.tz, habari@zanajira.go.tz and maulizo@zanajira.go.tz. The Commission has warned that fraudsters call applicants, say they have been selected and ask for money. Its notice says no government job is given in exchange for money and asks the public to report such calls to ZAECA on 113 or 0774 824242.
