How to check a vocational course and training centre in Tanzania

Before paying for skills training, check both the provider and the particular course. Tanzania’s Vocational Education and Training Authority publishes a catalogue showing centres and the occupations or courses associated with them. A listing is a starting point, not proof that a course is running this month or that the published fee is current.

Check the centre and course together

Look for the training centre’s name, location and course. For example, the catalogue page for Songea Vocational Training Centre lists courses in several trades and computer applications. The page also shows an old registration expiry date. Do not assume that means the centre is currently unregistered or that the listing has been renewed: ask VETA to confirm the present position.

Ask about the complete cost

Request the current intake dates, course duration, qualification level and awarding body. Ask for the full amount in writing, including registration, equipment, assessment and any accommodation costs. The figures in an old catalogue may have changed; confirm them with the centre through independently verified contact information.

Plan for work after training

Ask how much supervised practice the programme includes and whether it arranges an attachment. A chance to apply for an attachment is different from a guaranteed placement or job. Keep a record of tasks you complete and the tools you used, then explain them accurately on your CV.

Avoid paying a person who approaches you through an unverified message. If an advert claims a scholarship, verify the scholarship separately with the institution that awards it.
