Working in Dodoma: the capital, its hospital and university, and the SGR

Dodoma is the capital of Tanzania and home to public institutions such as Benjamin Mkapa Hospital and the University of Dodoma, and to regional offices of international organisations. Here is who was hiring, how public posts are filled and how to get there.

Public employers and how they recruit

Benjamin Mkapa Hospital is a government hospital in Dodoma under the Ministry of Health, and it works closely with the University of Dodoma. The University of Dodoma was established in 2007 and sits about 8 km east of the city centre, reachable by public transport.

Both recruit through the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat. On 7 October 2026, for example, PSRS advertised posts at Benjamin Mkapa Hospital together with the University of Dar es Salaam and other institutions. Getting there and around

Dodoma is the last stop on TRC's SGR passenger route from Dar es Salaam. TRC's ticketing site lists the stations Dar es Salaam, Pugu, Soga, Ruvu, Ngerengere, Morogoro, Mkata, Kilosa, Kidete, Gulwe, Igandu and Dodoma, and sells tickets online. Dodoma Airport is run by the Tanzania Airports Authority and has a 2,750 metre runway. If an interview is in Dodoma and you live in Dar es Salaam or Morogoro, the train is the first thing to check.

Pay

Private-sector minimum wages from 1 January 2026 depend on the sector, not the city. Hospitals have a minimum of TZS 250,000 a month, the business sector TZS 200,500 and the industrial sector TZS 200,000. Public posts pay by the salary scale printed in the advert, and international organisations publish their own grades.
