Civil Engineer

Job Description

• Supervise civil construction works for the plant, including foundations, equipment plinths, retaining structures, drainage systems, and associated civil infrastructure, in accordance with approved General Arrangement (GA) and foundation drawings.

• Coordinate with civil contractors and verify that all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and project requirements.

• Inspect and sign off foundation works prior to equipment installation, in coordination with Mechanical and Electrical teams.

• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to approved designs, project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements.

• Design, construct, and maintain small culverts, bridges, and other structures required for site access and internal haul roads.

• Plan and execute road repair and maintenance works across the plant site and mine access roads, including grading, re-gravelling, drainage improvement, and general road rehabilitation.

• Assess seasonal and rainy-season road and drainage risks and prioritize maintenance activities to ensure uninterrupted site access and logistics.

• Inspect and maintain culverts and drainage systems to prevent washouts, flooding, erosion, and damage to plant and haul road infrastructure.

• Supervise civil labour and contractor teams on-site, ensuring works are completed safely, within schedule, budget, and required quality standards.

• Prepare and maintain civil works documentation, including BOQs, progress reports, material inspection reports, measurement records, and as-built drawings.

• Coordinate and monitor material testing, including soil compaction tests, concrete cube tests, and other required quality-control tests.

• Verify quantities and completed works for contractor measurements and support certification of civil works.

• Conduct routine inspections of civil structures, including culverts, bridges, retaining walls, foundations, drainage systems, roads, and other site infrastructure.

• Identify structural defects, deterioration, erosion, and maintenance requirements and recommend appropriate corrective measures.

• Develop and support preventive and corrective maintenance plans for civil infrastructure.

• Ensure all civil works comply with applicable Tanzanian construction regulations, occupational health and safety requirements, environmental requirements, and company HSE policies.

• Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe conditions and ensure implementation of appropriate corrective and preventive measures.

• Support incident and near-miss investigations related to civil works and assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions.

• Promote safe working practices among civil contractors, labour teams, and other site personnel.
