Hotel pay in Tanzania: check the establishment category
Hotel stars affect the minimum-wage row. A job title such as receptionist or housekeeper does not reveal the category of the establishment.

Mainland private sector. These are statutory minimums for the listed categories, not average salaries or take-home pay. They are not a Zanzibar or public-service pay table, and a contract can pay more.
Choose the right category
The schedule uses three establishment bands. These are monthly wage floors, not average hotel salaries and not a promise that every worker in a star category earns the same amount. Verify the actual classification instead of relying on a luxury-looking photograph.
Questions to settle before accepting
Ask how service charge, tips, meals, accommodation, split shifts and peak-season hours are handled. Separate a contractual payment from money that depends on occupancy or customer generosity.
Make a fair comparison
Build your monthly budget around the guaranteed amount. Add a second scenario for variable service charge, and check what happens during the low season.
