Tourist porter pay: wages, expedition costs and tips
A mountain expedition may be short, while the legal schedule also publishes monthly rates. Avoid silently converting one period into another.

Mainland private sector. These are statutory minimums for the listed categories, not average salaries or take-home pay. They are not a Zanzibar or public-service pay table, and a contract can pay more.
Choose the right category
Tourist porters have their own row. The monthly amount is not a quoted expedition price. For a shorter engagement, consult the other official time-period rows and the employment arrangement instead of dividing by an arbitrary number of days.
Questions to settle before accepting
Ask about food, sleeping equipment, transport to the route, protective clothing, load responsibilities and how the operator records payment. Tips should remain a separate uncertain item.
Make a fair comparison
Write down the route dates and the days for travel or preparation. Compare the same itinerary before comparing two quoted totals.
