Tour guide pay: monthly minimums versus trip fees
A guide employed on a monthly contract and an independent guide quoting for a trip are different comparisons. Establish the relationship first.

Mainland private sector. These are statutory minimums for the listed categories, not average salaries or take-home pay. They are not a Zanzibar or public-service pay table, and a contract can pay more.
Choose the right category
The tourist-guide row provides a monthly employee minimum. It does not publish a per-safari freelance fee, a language premium or an average for guides working across parks and cities.
Questions to settle before accepting
Clarify responsibility for permits, transport, accommodation, meals, equipment and days spent preparing an itinerary. Ask how cancellations and waiting days affect payment.
Make a fair comparison
Compare two offers for the same period and included expenses. A trip fee that must cover your lodging cannot be read as the same amount of disposable pay.
